On Thursday 7th December 2023, Versa Ltd & TCS Geotechnics Ltd welcomed the John Sisk & Son Ltd Procurement Team to its Head Office on Martland Park in Wigan.

The TCS Group were keen to reciprocate the hospitality shown by Sisk’s at their Supply Chain Awards in Dublin a few weeks ago. An ideal opportunity for open discussions in relation to the current climate within the construction industry.

John Sisk & Son Ltd are one of the largest construction and civil engineering contractors in the UK and Ireland. They are at the very forefront of embracing innovative construction methods with a clear emphasis to engaging with their supply chain and to forming long standing partnerships which enable them to leverage specialist knowledge across the sector.

Mike Davies (General Manager, Versa Ltd) presented Versa’s full offering from design & manufacture to installation. Within this, Mike also charted Versa’s capabilities with regard to assisting contractors with their sustainable drives and initiatives. It was also a fantastic opportunity to discuss many of the key projects on which John Sisk & Son and Versa have collaborated over the past 14 years, proving a long-standing partnership which continues to be mutually benefit to both parties.

Ian Fraser (Technical Director, TCS Geotechnics) then discussed the opportunities to drive economic and sustainable change in construction methods utilising geosynthetics. Ian, as the current Chair of the BSI Geosynthetics Standards Committee, was ideally placed to open the discussion regarding current practices and ongoing frustrations with a reluctance to embrace change throughout the industry. He outlined how early consideration of geosynthetics solutions could significantly reduce time, cost and carbon vs ‘traditional’ construction methods. TCS Geotechnics partner with the biggest manufacturing names within the geosynthetic industry facilitating the opportunities for open engagement at a very early stage within the construction life cycle which can lead to more competitive tenders and more profitable and sustainable construction works..

Kieran Burke (General Manager, TCS Group) gave the meeting an insight in to the group’s long term advocacy of the apprenticeship scheme. The group currently has 6 members of the team who have launched their career path at TCS Group and continue to progress through the business developing into ever more valued members of the team.

After the meeting, Philip Cox & Mark Maloney (TCS Group Owner / Directors) gave the Sisk team a tour of Wily Fox Brewery, also on site in Wigan. Which of course, then led to some sampling in Wily Fox’s very own Tap Room.

A productive day had by all!
